After all of the military and aviation references seen during the A/W 2010 Fashion Weeks, especially Burberry (pictured above), I got thinking about different kinds of militia within fashion.
My mind immediately went to the film 'True Stories', directed by the little bit wonderful David Byrne, and the costumes featured in it. Adelle Lutz is the genius behind these pieces (pictured at the top of this post) who described them by saying 'These costumes are generic, they are not terribly subtle...' which, as quotes go, is a pretty good one. Though the costumes aren't terribly subtle, they are definitely not generic. I love the 70's wood grain on the suit and grassy blazers, they're all very strange but fit the scene perfectly.
I also found the work of an artist who creates similar pieces. Desiree Palmen brings her subjects into the landscape, incorporating them into part of the street, park bench, train or whatever tickles her fancy. She uses CCTV to capture peoples' reactions to her work, my favourite is the confused Nun.
