I thought it would be a nice change to see another aspect of Graduate Fashion Week (and maybe take a little time to big up one of my friends...) and take a look at promotion and styling. Lindsay Walton is a lovely little lady who's talent has grown and evolved over the years that I've known her, now she's behind the image splashed on billboards all around Graduate Fashion Week!
The UCLan Fashion Promotion and Styling course, which I do and Lindsay has just finished, really is one of the best courses of that type so if you're interested in promotion or styling, feel free to ask me or Lindsay anything about the course!
I love these photos, the accessories become the main focus of the shoot, all of them with their own beautifully unique oddness. The concept behind it really shines through as well, with the perfect, clinical colour palette to match.
I chatted to Lindsay about travelling, getting drunk and styling her future children...
Let's start simple, tell us a little bit about yourself….
I am a recent graduate from The University of Central Lancashire where I studied fashion promotion with styling, I hail from a lovely farm in the middle of Northumberland. During my time at university I have been on 7 Holidays, visited 8 Countries and been on about a million planes, I love travelling and discovering new places and I am planning on moving to Perth in September to be with my boyfriend and pursue a (hopefully) mint career in something really, really interesting. (Don’t know what yet though...)
What was the inspiration for your collection?
My Perfectly Compulsive shoot was for my Final Project and it is based on sufferers of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The concept of the shoot was that the sufferer could dispose or wipe down some of their clothes which were made from paper or plastic – this also was extended to the surroundings, essentially creating a very clinical and clean looking environment.
What magazines/blogs do you always read?
I have a few favourite magazines which I cannot always get a hold of because they aren’t published in the U.K but I love Oyster magazine and Frankie Magazine, it’s such a cute magazine, with lots of different and interesting articles and shoots. I read Clare's blog too cos it is well slammin’.
How did you find studying at UCLan and would you recommend it to others?
Obviously the abundance of holidays helped me through the years but I have met loads of lovely, talented people at UCLAN who I will be mates with for a long time! Not only that but the tutors are lovely and they really help you through each project. So yes I would recommend it to others…
If you could work for anyone, who would it be and why?
Anyone? Hmmmmm. I think I would quite like to work for Petra Storrs, I love all that stuff, creating sets and interesting costumes etc. Its amezzin. Im really quite interested in that, especially the paper sets.
What did you want to be when you were younger?
Whatever my big sister wanted to be I think!
How would you describe your own personal style?
I don’t think I have much of a developed style yet… I do like to mix smart with casual though…more casual at the minute.
Who would you most like to style? (dead or alive)
That’s a hard question. My future kids probably. They will be the coolest kids on the block.
Where is your favourite place in the World?
So far, India. You will understand why if you ever go.
What's the best way to relax after all the stress of finishing a project?
I’m sorry but it has to be quite an irresponsible answer. Get Drunk. Then do absolutely nothing the next day.
