I first fell in love with Virva Launo when I saw her work in The Nude Issue of Fashion156.com back in the days before their revamp so ignore the crazy layout problems... The first image is from the Nude Issue shoot and I do still love it. Actually, while we're on the subject, the new issue of Fashion156 came out today so go check that out. I especially love the F156 film, watch it here.
So back to Virva Launo, her pieces are not only aesthetically pleasing with lovely, clean lines and a superb colour palette, they also have hidden talents. The leather has been treated in a special way so as the bag gets older and has had more sunlight on it, it will begin to tan like our skin, revealing a beautiful pattern. I love this idea, it means that pieces have hidden depths and will keep on changing with age. Rather a lovely idea don't you agree?
I've also added in a few of her design sketches as I thought they were beautiful. Also, you're able to see the development process from accordions to the finished product.
Virva Launo is now part of the Marimekko group and has produced some amazingly vibrant pieces so I suggest you check those out too!
Don't forget, when I reach 200 followers I'm going to do a little giveaway so follow, follow, follow!
